Woman missing from Scone heads the Police News this week with an appeal for assistance:

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a woman reported missing from the state’s Hunter region.

Kim Searle, aged 38, was last leaving seen a property in Newcastle last week. Her family hasn’t heard from her since.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into her whereabouts.

Police and family hold concerns for her welfare.

Kim is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall, of medium build, with dark hair, blue eyes, and tattoos of dragonflies and flowers on her arms.

She is known to frequent regional Victoria as well as the Scone, Muswellbrook and Newcastle areas.

Anyone who may have information about Kim’s whereabouts is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Juveniles arrested following house fire – Goulburn

Two juvenile boys have been arrested following an investigation into a house fire at Goulburn this morning.

About 5.45am (Sunday 21 February 2021), officers from The Hume Police District attended a house in Chisholm Street following reports of a fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW were also in attendance and the blaze was quickly extinguished.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation commenced.

Following inquiries, officers arrested two boys – aged 14 and 13 – about 9.30am today (Sunday 21 February 2021), and they were taken to Goulburn Police Station.

The teens were interviewed and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Police will allege the boys poured accelerant around the home before setting it alight. It is further alleged a table was thrown through a window of the house. At the time of the incident a 64-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were asleep.

The occupants of the home were uninjured.

The house sustained minor damage.

Man charged with resisting arrest after crash – Queanbeyan

A man has been charged following a crash near the NSW/ACT border overnight.

About 4am (Sunday 21 February 2021), officers attached to Monaro Police District were patrolling the Queanbeyan suburb of Karabar, when they attempted to stop a BMW 330CI on Donald Road for a roadside breath test.

The BMW accelerated away, turning left into Murray Street before failing to negotiate abend, crashing into a tree.

The BMW stopped due to the damage sustained in the crash and officers approached the vehicle; however, the driver refused to get out and continued attempts to drive off.

While attempting to forcefully remove the driver, a taser and OC spray was deployed, and the 28-year-old man was arrested.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries as a result of the crash, before being taken to Queanbeyan Hospital in a stable condition. The man also underwent mandatory testing.

The man was later transferred to Queanbeyan Police Station where he was charged with fail to comply with request or signal to stop vehicle and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday 12 April 2021.

Man charged after another man was found with stab wounds – Tamworth

A man will face court tomorrow after a man was found with stab wounds at a Tamworth service station this morning.

Emergency services were called to the business on Goonoo Goonoo Road at South Tamworth about 3.45am (Saturday 20 February 2021), and found a 41-year-old man with stab wounds to his torso.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Tamworth Base Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.

A 26-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Tamworth Police Station. He has been charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Tamworth Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 21 February 2021).

Man stabbed, kicked, punched in Walgett assault

Inquiries are underway after a man was stabbed, kicked then punched in the face during a fight in a northern NSW town overnight.

Emergency services were called to Duff Street, Walgett, shortly after 7.30pm (Friday 19 February 2021), where a 24-year-old man was found with multiple injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for stab wounds to the head and shoulder, before being taken to the Walgett Multipurpose Centre.

The Walgett man was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to Dubbo Base Hospital for further treatment.

Police have been advised the man has since been transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, where he is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Central North Police District established a crime scene and conducted a canvass of the area.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone with information about this incident to contact Walgett Police or Crime Stoppers.

A crime scene has been established after a man was found with stab wounds at a Tamworth service station this morning.

Emergency services were called to the business on Goonoo Goonoo Road at South Tamworth about 3.45am (Saturday 20 February 2021), and found a 36-year-old man with stab wounds to his torso.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Tamworth Base Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.

A 26-year-old man was arrested nearby and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

A number of witnesses are assisting police; however, investigators are calling for anyone with information about the incident to contact Tamworth Detectives or Crime Stoppers.

Third person charged over murder of William Chaplin – Gerogery near Albury

A man has been charged over his role in the alleged murder of a man near Albury.

In August 2019, detectives from Murray River Police District commenced an investigation under Strike Force Demetrius into the disappearance of William Chaplin, who hadn’t been seen in almost a decade.

William Chaplin, then aged 25, was last seen in Gerogery, about 30km north of Albury, in early to mid-May 2010.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives, assisted by specialist forensic officers, executed a crime scene warrant at a rural property on Gerogery Road near the Olympic Highway in August 2019.

William’s body was located in a shallow grave.

In September 2019, a 25-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were arrested and charged over the alleged murder. They remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 50-year-old man at a correctional facility in Sydney earlier today (Thursday 18 February 2021).

He was charged with murder and was remanded in custody, to appear in Albury Local Court on Tuesday 23 February 2021.

Officer injured during arrest; man charged – East Maitland

A man faces numerous charges after a police officer was injured during an arrest in the Hunter region yesterday.

About 5pm (Thursday 18 February 2021), an officer attached to Port Stephens Traffic and Highway Patrol saw an unregistered road bike being ridden on the New England Highway, East Maitland, allegedly at excessive speed.

The motorcycle stopped in traffic and the officer approached the rider, who immediately lashed out, falling to the ground. As the officer attempted to assist remove the bike, he was allegedly punched in the face and chest.

During a struggle, the rider, a 39-year-old man, has continued to kick and punch the senior constable before he was arrested with the assistance of members of the public.

Further police attended to assist, and the rider continued to struggle with officers. In trying to restrain the man, an acting sergeant has suffered a dislocated shoulder. He was taken to Maitland Hospital for treatment.

The man was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, motor vehicle exceed speed more than 20 km/h, licence expired 2 years or more, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty, two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, use unregistered motor vehicle on road, other traffic offences and breach of bail.

The Maitland man was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court today (Friday 19 February 2021).
