$58,000 ‘SECURES’ ARMIDALE SCOUT HALL FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
THE 2nd Armidale Scout Group is taking steps to ensure its new home on Taylor Street can be secured safe and tight, with Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall today announcing a $58,000 State Government grant to install a new security fence and lockable shed.
Mr Marshall said Armidale Scouts had recently moved into the hall and were looking forward to making improvements to the building to make it their own.
“With this premises on Taylor Street, the 2nd Armidale Scout Group is in a position to establish itself for the long-term, by updating the building in a way which makes it functional for Scout programs and events,” Mr Marshall said.
“This grant will start that process. Using local contractors the existing fence will be demolished and a new security fence will be erected in its place.
“The Scouts also want to build a shed where they can safely store their camping, sports and training equipment.
“Currently the building is catering for 55 youths and 13 leaders. The group also has a waiting list for youth members which is fantastic.
“Scouts NSW is one of our State’s largest and most popular youth organisations that helps communities build leadership skills, resilience and friendship through healthy activities for young people – it’s great to be able to support them.”
The 2nd Armidale Scouts Group Leader Bruce Myers said the organisation was going from strength to strength.
“It’s exciting to be part of 2nd Armidale Scout Group during this period of growth,” Mr Meyers.
“This project will assist us in providing a safe and secure venue for our youth members and a place in which we can safely store our gear.
“We’re very grateful to receive this COVID-19 Stimulus Grant and we’re looking forward to the improvements we can make around the hall and grounds.”
The funding is part of $7.75 million being provided, under the Government’s COVID-19 stimulus program, for projects at Scouts facilities on Crown land.
The 2nd Armidale Scouts Group meets two nights a week:
Cubs – Tuesday 6 to 7.30pm
Scouts – Wednesday 6.30 to 8.30pm
Ventures – Wednesday 6.30 to 8.30pm
