Police Appeal after Aboriginal memorial damaged – Myall Creek

Police are appealing for assistance from the community after an Aboriginal memorial was damaged in the states north west.

On Friday 24 September 2021, officers attached to New England Police District received reports the Myall Creek Memorial on Whitlow Road, Myall Creek, had been damaged.

A plaque has been scratched and an access handrail at the site has been removed and stolen.

Due to the remote location of the memorial, it is believed the damage occurred between July 2021 and September 2021.

Local police have commenced an investigation into the incident and are appealing for anyone with information that may assist to come forward.

Man charged after officer seriously assaulted following brawl – Albury

A man will appear in court today charged after a police officer was assaulted following a brawl in the state’s south overnight.

Just after 8.30pm (Saturday 2 October 2021), officers attached to Murray River Police District were conducting proactive patrols of the Albury area when they observed two men involved in a physical altercation on Dean Street.

As the two officers separated the men, a male senior constable was taken to the ground, before he was approached by a third unknown man and allegedly kicked in the face and knocked unconscious.

All three men fled the scene on foot.

The male senior constable was taken to Albury Base Hospital in a serious condition with facial fractures and a head injury.

Additional police arrived and established a crime scene, before officers commenced a search of the surrounding area.

A short time later, officers arrested the two men involved in the physical altercation – aged 22 and 20 – in separate locations nearby. They were taken to Albury Police Station.

Following inquiries, a 20-year-old Wodonga man was arrested at Albury Police Station about 10.15pm.

The 20-year-old Wodonga man was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent to resist arrest.

He was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Bail Court today (Sunday 3 October 2021).

The older man – who was allegedly involved in the physical altercation – was charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Albury Local Court on Monday 1 November 2021.

The 20-year-old Albury man remains in police custody and inquiries continue.

Boy dies in fatal crash near Wagga Wagga

A child has died following a single vehicle crash south of Wagga Wagga today.

About 12.15pm (Saturday 2 October 20210), emergency services attended Holbrook Road, near Paper Forest Road, at Mangoplah following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

A Mitsubishi Triton was travelling northbound on Holbrook Road when it appears to have left the roadway and hit a tree.

The driver – a 28-year-old man – was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

A six-year-old boy – a passenger – died at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit are attending.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Holbrook Road is currently closed in both directions and motorists are advised to use alternate routes or delay their travels.

Investigations are continuing.

Woman missing from state’s north located

A woman reported missing from the state’s north has been located safe and well.

The 47-year-old woman was last seen leaving a premises on Crescent Street, Armidale, on Tuesday 28 September 2021.

She was reported missing to officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District yesterday (Friday 1 October 2021), who commenced an investigation into her whereabouts.

Following inquiries, she was located in the Coffs Harbour area about 10.15am today (Saturday 2 October 2021).

Further charges as investigations into break-in syndicate continue – Financial Crimes Squad

Financial Crime Squad detectives have charged another man over his alleged role in a criminal syndicate involved in the theft of vehicles across Sydney.

In November last year, detectives from the Financial Crime Squad’s Motor Unit established Strike Force Swete to investigate criminal syndicates involved in break-in offences across Sydney.

Following further inquiries, police stopped a Holden Commodore travelling in Doonside just before 6.30am on Tuesday (28 September 2021).

The driver – a 19-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station.

His vehicle, a mobile phone and other items were seized for forensic examination.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at a home at Doonside, where officers seized steroids, two motorcycles – one of which was stolen and the other rebirthed – and more than $3,000 cash.

Following inquiries, the man was charged with 11 offences, including;

• Aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence (x4),

• steal motor vehicle (x4),

• aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there (x2), and,

• participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Police will allege in court that the Doonside man was involved in a criminal syndicate responsible for a number of break and enter offences across the Sydney metropolitan area.

He appeared at Mount Druitt Local Court that day, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 22 December 2021.

Since its inception last year, Strike Force Swete investigators have charged 14 men and laid 242 charges relating to the theft of vehicles, and break and enter of homes, across Sydney.

In addition, detectives have recovered and seized 14 stolen vehicles.

Inquiries continue and more arrests are expected.

Appeal for information after sexual touching incidents on young women – Coogee

Police are appealing for information after reports of sexual touching incidents on at least two young women in Sydney’s east.

Yesterday (Thursday 30 September 2021), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command received a report a 15-year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a man at a grocer on Coogee Bay Road, Coogee, about 4pm that day.

Police believe the man frequents the grocer and has reportedly touched other young women previously.

Detectives have commenced an investigation and released an image of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man depicted is believed to be aged in his 20s, of African appearance, about 182cm tall, with short dark hair and bleach blonde tips.

Officer charged – North West Metropolitan Region

An officer will appear in court today charged with traffic and judicial offences.

About 3.30pm yesterday (Friday 1 October 2021), officers from Professional Standards Command, assisted by Nepean Police Area Command, attended a home at Jordan Springs when they stopped a vehicle nearby after it was seen driving away.

Police spoke to the driver, a 42-year-old male sergeant – who is attached to a command in the North West Metropolitan Region – before he was arrested.

He was subjected to a random breath test, returning a positive result before being taken to Riverstone Police Station, where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.162.

The man was charged with drive with high range PCA and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 2 October 2021).

The officer is currently suspended from duty with pay.

Second man charged following brawl – Forbes

A second man has been charged following investigations into a brawl in the state’s Central West earlier this week.

About 11.15pm on Wednesday 29 September 2021, emergency services were called to Scrivener Street in Forbes, after reports of an alleged fight between a group of people.

Upon arrival, officers attached Central West Police District found a man lying on the road with injuries to his head, as well as a stab wound to his torso.

The 35-year-old was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Orange Base Hospital for treatment. He remains in a stable condition.

About 5.15am yesterday (Thursday 30 September 2021), police arrested an 18-year-old man at Forbes. He was charged and remains before the courts.

Following further investigations, police arrested a 28-year-old man at a home on Farnell Street, Forbes about 12.15pm yesterday (Thursday 30 September 2021).

He was taken to Parkes Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail to appear at Orange Local Court today (Friday 1 October 2021).

Investigations are continuing.

Religious leader arrested over alleged $40,000 charity fraud – Yagoona

A religious leader has been arrested following an investigation into alleged charity fraud offences valued at $40,000 in Sydney’s west.

Earlier this year, officers from Campsie Police Area Command, alongside detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad, commenced an investigation into reports a religious leader had engaged in fraudulent activity.

During the investigation, police identified that the man had established a religious council and was collecting donations from community groups across Australia intended for overseas charities.

Following extensive inquiries, about 7am today (Friday 1 October 2021), police executed a search warrant at an address on Alan Street, Yagoona, where they arrested a 55-year-old man.

During the search, officers seized documentation relevant to the investigation, which will undergo further examination.

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.

Investigations are continuing.
