Watts Memorial Dedication to “Bird Routes”

Watts Memorial Dedication, Russ & Jenny Watts In the 1990’s Russ and Jenny Watts developed the concept of “Bird Routes”.
They partnered with the former Barraba Shire Council to make Barraba “The Birthplace of Australian Bird Routes”.
Their legacy continues today, with the Tamworth Birdwatchers group still thriving and enjoying the routes that Russ and Jenny started all those years ago.

More than 50 people came together to celebrate the achievements of Russ and Jenny in Barraba on Monday 18th October. Tamworth Birdwatchers, in conjunction with Tamworth Regional Council, have a dedicated Commemorative Plaque. The plaque sits within a new native garden, where we can continue to celebrate Russ and Jenny’s lifetime achievements and dedication to birdlife and biodiversity.

National Bird Week Monday 18 October and Sunday 24 October
The celebration of National Bird Week has its origins back in the early 1900s when 28 October was first designated by our predecessor, the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union, as the first ‘Bird Day’. BirdLife Australia organises and promotes Bird Week with the goal of inspiring Australians to take action and get involved in bird conservation efforts.
