DRIVE-THROUGH COVID TESTING RESUMES AT ARMIDALE

DRIVE-THROUGH COVID testing has resumed at Armidale with a Laverty Pathology clinic now operational at the Armidale Showground.

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said consistent poor weather, including the recent tornado, prompted Laverty Pathology to relocate its operations from the Armidale Airport Business Park.

“With three confirmed cases of COVD-19 now in Armidale, it’s important the community has timely access to testing,” Mr. Marshall said.

“The Armidale Showground service will be open Monday to Friday 8 am to 3 pm, with patients able to drive up for testing without an appointment.

“Entry to the new clinic is off Canambe Street, with vehicles departing the Showground onto Kennedy Street.

“With known cases of the virus in the community people should monitor for symptoms, and if they appear, immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

“With lockdowns a thing of the past in NSW it’s important that as soon as a sewage detect or positive case is identified, the community steps up and responds, to prevent any chance of a large-scale outbreak.”

Mr. Marshall said he had written to Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Roads Paul Toole requesting a testing clinic be re-established on the New England Highway.

“The loss of the facility at the Armidale Airport Business Park means there is now no ‘freight friendly testing sites on the New England Highway,” he said.

“There are still strict requirements for truck drivers to be tested before entering Queensland and it’s vital for the continued flow of freight in and out of our State that there are accessible testing clinics along our major freight corridors.

“I have called on Transport for NSW to commission a testing clinic somewhere along the highway, until such times as the border requirements change.”
